WFUS - A History

WFUS-FM 103.5 Gulfport –Clear Channel’s classic rock Thunder 103.5 WTBT flipped to a country music format in April 2005 and became WFUS (Florida’s “US 103.5”). The 98,000-watt FM is part of the company’s eight-station Tampa Bay cluster headquartered on Gandy Boulevard in St. Petersburg and its tower is located in Riverview.

Some names in WFUS history include the morning team of Skip Mahaffey, Les McDowell, and Braden Gunn, Melissa (morning news), Valerie Hart (mid-days), Travis & Jenny (PD Travis Daily and news anchor Jenny Dean who later moved to mornings),  Norm (nights), Blair Garner (overnights), Erik Tomlin (music director), Sean O’Grady (promotions director), Paul Koffy (afternoons), and Gary Ballinger.
