WRXB - A History
WRXB-AM 1590 St. Petersburg Beach – In 1976, St. Pete Beach’s WILZ became Rolyn Broadcasting’s WRXB (Rhythm X [and] Blues). It was acquired in 1999 by Missouri-based Metropolitan Radio Group and, in 2007, by Polnet Communications, who paid $1.1 million for it in a sale that also included Sarasota’s WTMY AM-1280.
Today (2012), WRXB’s administrative offices are at 3551 42nd Avenue South in St. Petersburg. The 5-kilowatt (1-kilowatt at night) station airs an urban gospel format from a three-tower transmitter site off 38th Avenue South and also broadcasts via an FM translator on 96.5 that is licensed to Bradenton.
