Steve Michaels
Steve Michaels (Steve German) started out in radio in 1978 while still in high school at WDCF-AM in Dade City. In 1981, at the age of 19, he took on his second radio job, afternoon drive at WQPD, where he eventually became program director. The following year, Bob Kelly, WQPD’s co-owner/GM, sent him to PD a new combo the company had purchased in Columbia, Missouri.
Since those days, he’s been an assistant PD, music director, and ops manager at other stations that include Tampa Bay FM’s WNLT, WYUU, WCOF and WWRM, as well as Orlando’s WOMX-FM. He’s done contract engineering work, and was a radio and television instructor for the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Tampa.
Steve left radio in 2008 after almost 30 years in the business to work for a software development firm in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and passed away in 2011 at the age of 49.
