Jim Turner

Jim started his career in broadcasting in Lancaster-Lebanon, Pennsylvania at WLYH-TV doing everything from writing copy for commercials and reading the news to running the camera. A couple of years later he took a job in radio at WGAL in Lancaster. His response to a broadcasting trade magazine ad brought him to Orlando and NewsTalk 580 WDBO in 1972.  It was there, a few years later, that he met and married his wife, Emilie, who was a copywriter at the station.

After hosting afternoons for 12 years, Jim took over the morning shift in 1984 when then-PD David Bernstein decided that he was the right personality to lead the station away from its long-time music format and into talk and information.

In 2012, Jim celebrated his 40th anniversary with WDBO, a rare milestone in the radio business, and in October announced his retirement from Cox Media Group. Eight years earlier, the National Association of Broadcasters honored the veteran broadcaster with the Marconi Award for "Personality of the Year."
