Officer Jim Bishop
One of Central Florida’s most familiar voices for commuters weekday mornings from 5 to 9 a.m. is Officer Jim Bishop, NewsTalk580 WDBO’s morning traffic reporter since 1978. He retired from full-time duty with the Orlando police department in 1994 after spending 22 years on the force, 16 of them as spokesperson for the department’s Crime Line.
Today (2007) Jim delivers his on-air traffic updates every six minutes from WDBO’s comfy studio chair, thanks to the FDOT’s Regional Traffic Management Center’s 64 cameras which keep watch over area traffic. In between reports he banters back-and-forth with show host Jim Turner.
When he’s not on the air, Jim teaches a driver improvement course at the Central Florida Safety Council’s defensive driving school and often makes television appearances and presentations to local civic organizations
