Tom was born in Orlando and started in radio at Lakeland’s WLAK in the late 1950’s hosting the afternoon teen show, 1430 Club. In 1961 he began working his way through the University of Florida and moved to mornings at WDVH in Gainesville. Four years later, packing a B.S. degree in broadcasting, he moved on to afternoon drive at Jacksonville’s WPDQ and then to WSAI in Cincinnati as Program Director. He returned to WPDQ in 1968, this time as Music Director (and later Program Director), to do afternoon drive.
In 1969 Tom joined the air staff of Miami’s Rounsaville-owned WFUN to do the music and mid-days. He was later promoted to Program Director and then National Program Director for the Rounsaville chain from 1974 to 1977. In 1979, he became an off-air Program Director at WDBO in Orlando, but did vacation fill in from time to time. By 1983, he was Vice President and General Manager of Kelly Communications’ WQPD in Lakeland, and later managed another Kelly property, WOWD in Tallahassee.
Tom retired in 2002 after eighteen years in the Marketing Department at Walt Disney World where he was Manager of Promotions, handling all of the radio and television that originated on the property as well as all media promotions around the country. The last five years there were also spent as Director of Film and Television Development at the Disney-MGM Studios.
Today (2005), Tom and his wife live in the Orlando area.
