Ralph came to Florida from New York in 1970 and launched his broadcasting career as sports director for a Sarasota cable television station. After graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School, he attended Manatee Junior College and the University of Florida, and then joined Bradenton’s WTRL where he became its news director and sports director.
In February 1977, he moved to Lakeland to become WONN’s sports director and assistant news director. The following fall, he teamed up with Bobby Barnes and Earl Wells to provide weekly play-by-play coverage of Friday night Winter Haven High School football over sister station WPCV.
Eventually returning to Sarasota, the Long Island native went on to work at area stations WQSA AM-1220 (news director, operations manager, and host of “Suncoast Digest”), Moody Bible Institute’s WKZM-FM 104.3, and AM-930 WLSS. In 2006 he received his Masters in Library and Information Sciences from the University of South Florida.
Today (2010) Ralph is an ESE teacher with the Pinellas County School District, and works weekends at the New College of Florida library reference desk in Sarasota.
