Dean was a New Yorker who moved to the Cigar City and attended the University of Tampa. He worked on the campus radio station and, from there, moved into commercial radio with WPKM and WINQ, and became one of WLCY’s “Swinging Gentlemen.”
In the 70’s he moved into television, joining the staff of WTVT-Channel 13 as a booth announcer. During his years there, he appeared on a “Pulse Plus” segment called “Tampa Bay Topics,” and was the off-screen announcer for the station’s high school game of knowledge, “High Q.”
Dean joined Local 321 of the I.A.T.S.E. (the union whose members include theater stagehands) in the 90’s doing booth set-ups and other stage work for conventions and concerts at venues like Ruth Eckerd Hall and Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
