Bob Hughes
St. Petersburg was Bob’s hometown where he attended St. Petersburg College from 1968-70. Although his first broadcasting job was in television at WTVT (part of the production staff), he went on to make his mark in radio, first at Clearwater’s WAZE, then on the beautiful music WWBA AM & FM’s morning news show, WDAE-FM and Clearwater’s beautiful music WQXM (1979-83) where he ran the promotions department and did morning news. After the station became 98 Rock, he was one of only two on-air staffers to make the cut. The others were let go.
Bob’s work in Tampa Bay also included stops at Clearwater classical station 92.5 WXCR (1983-85), Dan Johnson’s WTMV Channel 32 (1985-97 promotions director) and WQYK (news director). After leaving Tampa Bay, he moved to California as promotions and public affairs director for Paxson’s KKPX in San Jose.
Today (2008), Bob is a marketing and public relations consultant for WGSA-TV in Savannah.
